Hi, I'm Alex.
I'm an incoming PhD student at UC Berkeley / UCSF Bioengineering
I'm interested in using and developing cutting-edge tools that bridge the wet-lab with computational analysis to rationally modulate natural biological function for discovery and treatment in neuroscience and aging-associated disorders.
Previously, I combined engineering principles with computational and wet-lab approaches to study of brain tumors, aging, and computer vision at Oregon State University, the National Institutes of Health, and private industry.
Beyond my research experience, my time founding and leading organizations specializing in scientific education and innovation cultivates a unique set of skills:
- Competence and productivity at the bench
- AI-based computational methods accelerating discovery
- Achievement in scientific communication
- Experience as a leader and follower in teams across academia, industry, and non-profits
- Patience and proficiency in mentorship and teaching
As a Brazilian-American raised in Portland, Oregon, I enjoy nature, the gym, and urbanism. More information about my background, interests, and projects can all be found in the headers above.
